It has been 5 hours and I can still taste the Garlic without the necessity of thinking about it! By the way, I Love Garlic! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tonight we ate at Nonna’s Italian Restaraunt just south of the the Square on South street in Springfield MO. Since St Patrick’s Day is coming up, we wanted to eat in an Irish Pub so we chose Finnigan’s Wake and going to the WRONG door we thought they were closed. Disappointed, but not crying, we looked across the street and went with another “I” from Irish to Italian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nonna’s is a quant storefront restaurant in the energized South Street neighborhood. We like the Downtown District. When we asked us if we had reservations, which we didn’t, and yet they were able to seat us upstairs in the back. The nice college age woman, I almost wrote girl as they all look so young now that I am over 65, came immediately and got us water to drink. We ordered fried Ravioli from the appetizers which came out hot enough to burn the inside of my mouth and make me awkwardly suck air to cool it down. They were crisp and crunchy but be careful of the temp!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then came the bread and this is where the garlic comes in! Did I mention I love garlic??? A little loaf of bread and a “shot” cup of ground garlic and another of what I take to be parmesan cheese, if I could taste it over the garlic! I put some nice olive oil on the app plate and then a big scoop of garlic with a little cheese. Then I sopped up the oil and dredged up the garlic. Nice firm bits of pieces of roughly grated or finely chopped Garlic. Did I tell you how much I love garlic?? Frankly, this was the best taste of the whole meal and I’m still tasting it. Doesn’t get better!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had the authentic Rigatoni with spicy Roman sauce and an add=on menatball. My wife had the Trofie with a pesto sauce with basil, olive oil and pine nuts also adding a meatball.. My rigatoni was spicy as expected from red chili’s. It was good but I would have liked a little more seasoning for my taste. My wife’s pesto was rich with basil. We both thought the meatball could have used something as it seemed to be a hamburger ball with little seasoning. I’ll have to give the dishes another taste as we each brought half our main dish home and 1 of the 2 meatballs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The food was good, and it met expectations but we weren’t “Wow”ed. But it is better than the Italian chain establishments. If you like Italian I would say give it a try and see what you think! They also have live music but he was just setting up when we left so you might check on the schedule if you want to hear live entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and fits well with the Italian theme. It feels like a place where an Italian mom is overseeing every detail of the experience. Afterwards treat yourself to a nice walk around the downtown. and some fun people watching! When you go, don’t forget to lather your bread with Garlic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
END of Review– Speaking of people watching……… The most entertaining thing during the meal was people watching. The couple trying to eat 2 large cannoli’s after the big meal. The people wrapping the spaghetti on their forks and trying to get the wayward strings in their mouth. Then there was the couple who didn’t speak for the first 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were sitting to front and diagonal to me. They just sat there looking at everything except each other. He occupied himself rereading the menu while she checked her hair, lipstick, eyebrows in here selfie phone. then something set her off, it was probably him, and she used up her remaining 15,000 words for the day str.aightening him out. My wife and I could hear phrases and words and sentences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a gigle I said, “maybe I should take my chair over and volunteer to do some counseling” to which my wife raised her eyebrows and gave me the evil eye. “Don’t you think about it.” Then for the next 10 minutes we mimicked making it right as the heat was on. “Honey, even though we are fighting I wouldn’t trade you for the world!” “Can we hold hands?” “you are the greatest!” “I love you even more than I love garlic!” He was in hot water and kept his head down and didn’t look at her. When it was time to go I thought we should follow them and see if they made up or if one of them got stranded! Am I sick? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
