Flying High: B-29 Bar and Grill is da Bomb!

On a Thursday night, we went into a non-descript, strip mall to the Bar and Grill B-20 and boom!! It was packed. All the tables were full so we had to sit at the bar. B-29 is located in Ozark across the street from Lamberts.

B-29 honors the men and women who fought in the armed forces on behalf of the US. The B=29 was a Boeing bomber that was made immortal during WW2. As we opened the door we were overwhelmed by the amount of pictures and memorabilia. Is it possible to cover every square inch of wall? Photographs of soldiers fill every wall. Uniforms of every stripe hang on hangers as if waiting for their soldier to rise up and dawn the uniform. Of course WW2 model planes hang from the ceiling and of course the venerable B-29.

My thirty something daughter had no idea where they came up with the “B-29” moniker for the Grill. I could have pointed to any number of older men who inhabited the tables with their comrades who could have shared the stories of war. Or the older man with the tattoos of a lifetime of battle sitting on the bar stool next to me. They could have told the story of the B-29. But I filled in the blanks for my daughter.

The moment you walk in the door it looks and feels like a place your grandfather would have hung out with his squad 80 years ago. The decor tells a story of patriots, service, honor, battles, freedom and adventures.

We didn’t go there to see the very cool decor. (if for no other reason, this is way worth the time just to see the deor! Worth it!!! 10 out of 10 for decor and atmosphere)

The service was as good as it gets! They were sweet, attentive and quick. The special of the night was 1 , 2 or 3 piece fish dinner with 2 sides. My daughter and her foster child had fish and loved it! They couldn’t eat it all and took some home. I had the signature French Dip. The meat was plentiful and tasty with a nice, hot Au Jour. I would order it again. I had good cole slaw and for my 2nd side, a garden salad for a small up charge.

If you are looking for good food and a patriotic place to go that tells the story of heroes and feels like a military dive bar from a different era then look no farther than B=29.

Rating: The decor was over the top. 5 out of 5. Service was quick, friendly and attentive so 5 out of 5 as I couldn’t see anything to deduct a half point over. The food was exactly what I would expect from a good Bar and Grill. I would give it a 4 out of 5. 3 is average. It is solidly good and I and my family and friends will go again.
