Learn something from My Experience with a Sawmill and Solar Kiln

I once had a Sawmill and a Solar Kiln!  It was a dream come true!  I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the World!  But let me say it was work, work, work.  This is not the road to easy, get rich quick schemes.   Every penny I got and every piece of lumber I produced was painstaking work.

The downside is it is a lot of work!   The upside is there is nothing like seeing a tree turn into lumber.  I can’t explain the feeling of seeing bark and wood going through the saw and then seeing what is revealed beneath the surface.   Almost always I was in awe of what was right below the surface.  The smell of wet sawdust and the signt of the grain in a fresh cut board.  There is nothing like ti.  The wonder of God’s creation revealed in the sound of a blade eating through the length of a log.

This all took place about 10 years ago. I still have a pile of lumber from that season in life.   I always think someday I will have a bandsaw mill on a much smaller scale and maybe a solar kiln.   But seasons change and now I am more in the turning wood into useful items like bowls on a lathe.  (If you are interested in my woodworking check out my Ozark Highlander Woodworking pages.

I had a website that chronicled my journey from that season in my life and on the connected pages you can see what I learned.  If you are interested in operating a sawmill or a solar kiln then I hope you find these pages helpful.
