I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have eaten at Springfield’s Hong Kong Inn. My dad liked Hong Kong Inn. He took his granddaughter to Hong Kong Inn on Glenstone. It was easy, good and he knew one of the ladies who worked there from church or somewhere.
Last week we had been talking about getting Chinese when we came to Springfield. We wanted Chinese over Italian, American, Burgers, Breakfast, Steak House or any other style of food. Chinese! Chinese! Chinese! We want Chinese!
I have a spreadsheet of all the Chinese Restaurants in Springfield. We or I have eaten at about 75% of them. From Mid-town North I have eaten at all of them on my spreadsheet so all the ones I haven’t tried are in South Springfield which is farther from our house. Often we end up eating at the same Chinese. We couldn’t decide on where to eat, but it had to be Chinese. After a few minutes of thought we settled on Hong Kong Inn on West Kearney. It is a good choice.
Hong Kong Inn at both locations always has a line of cars in the Drive Through. When we came out the line went all the way to the street. That is a good sign. We went inside to eat. The place was clean. Tile floors. Lots of tables and booths. There were groups of people, families sitting at maybe 40% of the tables and booths.
At the counter we ordered Cashew Chicken and Wonton Soup for her and General Tso Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup for me. The dish came with egg roll and crab ragoon then we added the soups as an extra item. These were big helpings of rice and chicken chunks. We took half home!
The food: It is consistently solidly good. That is one of the things we love about Hong Kong Inn. It can always be counted on as consistently good. I would give it a 4 out of 5 on the food. I’m not sure it would ever surprise or stun you with awesomeness but it is consistently good! It is better than average. It is 4 out of 5. Not 5 and not 3. That seems to ring true by the number of cars that line up in the drive-through.
The service is good but I don’t think I can say it is any better than average. It was good. The server was nice and friendly and helpful. But it is still just fast food consistent so average. 3 out of 4.
Atmosphere: Pretty standard. Compared to other Chinese Restaurants it is probably average. However, if you compared to all restaurants across genres I would say that it is a little below average at 2 out of 5. They could use a good interior and exterior designer which is probably true of far more than half of all Chinese establishments. Not much care put into this end, but we are here for the chopsticks and food!
There is little doubt that we will be back! Again. And again. And again. And maybe again.
