The CEO of McDonald’s, /Chris Kempczinski, went viral with a cringe video of himself eating one of McDonald’s hamburgers. I don’t think Arby’s Management have eaten their own “product.”
I was watching a PBS cooking show where they were talking about Greek food and while I was doing something else I heard them mention “Gyro.” It was innocent enough. I know you have heard someone mention some food and all of a sudden that is what you are craving! I couldn’t help it. It was like my brain was like a fly drawn irresistibly to a plate of potato salad. I couldn’t get my mind off the deep craving for a Gyro!
My chance came! Instead of driving to one of the authentic Greek food trucks or niche restaurants, I thought to myself, “2manyhobbys, you know that Arbys is closer and they have Gyros. Let’s not drive downtown. Look how convenient Arby’s is!”
Rule # 11 “Always check the parking lot.” I know, I know! You are getting ahead of the story. There was no one there when I drove around the building. No one in the parking lot. No one I could see in the windows. No cars. Empty! My soul screamed “Keep going!” But my logical brain said, “we are here. Might as well give it a try.”
I went in and walked up to the counter and the nice lady met me and took my order. Gyro, Curly Fries and a Drink. When she rung me up I thought that this was no bargain! My bag of food came out fast! I couldn’t believe that got it out that fast. Maybe I should have told them to spend a little more time on it, or make sure it is fresh and hot and just prepared. Now I wonder as I reflect that maybe the sandwich had been sitting back there waiting for some slob of a customer to show up and take me home!
Looking around for a place to sit….. I remind you that I prefer to eat inside. I rarely, if ever, go through the drive through. I don’t like to eat in the car and its not because my truck is super clean or even marginally clean. It’s just so messy. And I don’t want to take it home as it will be cold or cooled before I get there. Back to the story…. I looked around and my eyes were immediately drawn to 2 different tables in two different sections where someone had pulled them out from the “booth” arrangement and the tables were in the aisle between tables. Strange! Like they had been doing some cleaning and never put them back. It wasn’t like anyone was going to need them soon as there was way too much seating for just me. But then I noticed how dark it was. Amp up the lights Dudes! I give the atmosphere and setting a 2 out of 5. It was clean so it didn’t get a 1 as the wet floor sign suggested it had just been moped. Sometime.
Now the short good news. Self-serve refills on drinks! Don’t mind if I do! Second, the curly fries were hot and crispy. Clearly, they had come immediately from the fryer! I had horsey sauce and Arby’s sauce and ketchup and barbeque sauce. Dip them in and eat them down. Good! I’m going to give them a 5 out of 5 as they were hot and crunchy and Arby’s has a good selection of self-serve sauces. Met all expectations.
Now it goes bad. The gyro sandwich was more like something that you would get out of the refrigerated sandwich service at a convenient store where it had been in there for a week. Do you get the picture? The tazikie sauce was too runny. The pita was limp, well, like it had been sitting in the frig for a week. It wasn’t like they ran it through a toaster first before they served it to me. It was just limp like it had been sitting in its own juices for a while. Don’t get me started on the meat! I have some questions about it! Did it come from a can? Was it processed by the packing house that gave the lowest possible bid for some meats that they couldn’t use anywhere else? Chicken or Beef, or Pork or ??? leftovers that no one would put in hot dogs or baloney?? The meat was kind of mushy and lacking in flavor and barely warmed at best. I rate the gyro a 0 out of 5. It was unappetizing enough that as I drove away I said I won’t be back for a Gyro!!! I won’t be giving that another chance and I usually give any establishment another chance thinking they were just having a “bad” night. Nope1 unnn uah!
Arby’s Management!!! Have you tried your own food? Up your game!!!
